Cycle

How does your reverse vending machine technology work?

A Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) scans, crushes and sorts empty beverage containers in exchange for a digital reward. Consumers return as many empty cans or bottles as they please, scan a QR Code, and fill in their info on a webpage that instantly tells them what they have won for recycling. Learn more about how Cycle can increase your sustainability and engagement at stadiums, campuses, events and more.

Can you explain the reward system for the reverse vending machines?

The more bottles or cans that a consumer recycles at our RVMs, the more chances that individual gets to win rewards. Consumers can earn anything from tickets to a future sports game, discounts to local businesses, to a signed jersey. The more containers recycled by an individual, the higher chances they earn through leaderboards, competitions or randomized rewards.

What happens if the reverse vending machine is full or malfunctions?

The RVMs are IOT enabled and will notify on-site facilities staff by SMS or email that the RVM is full or reaching full. The bottom compartment of the RVM is opened, full bags are removed, and new bags are replaced in the bin. RTS offers live monitoring and support for any RVM malfunctions. Our RVMs notify on-site staff of how to fix any type of malfunction with the RVM.

How do you handle non-recyclable items in reverse vending machines?

The RVM instantaneously determines if what is placed in the RVM is recyclable or not through a combination of sensors and lasers. The RVM will show a prompt on the screen to “Please Remove” the item if a non-recyclable item is placed in the machine.

What is a waste audit and why is it important?

A waste audit is a critical process that involves the collection and assessment of waste bags from different areas within a business. Its primary purpose is to create a comprehensive material profile of the waste generated. Our hands-on examination of waste streams is essential for gaining valuable insights into your organization’s true diversion rate and for formulating effective strategies to minimize and divert waste away from landfills.

To help you achieve your waste reduction goals, it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of your current waste generation practices. Our waste audit serves as the initial benchmark for this assessment. After the implementation of our recommendations, we conduct follow-up audits to measure the impact the programs have had on your waste management practices. This iterative approach ensures that we continue to make progress toward reducing waste and promoting sustainable waste management within your business. Speak to a rep and find out more by requesting an assessment here.

What certifications does your company hold related to waste management and sustainability?

RTS is an active member of the USGBC (U.S. Green Business Council) and the sustainability team members are active TRUE Advisors and/or LEED-accredited professionals.

How are the results of the waste audits used to improve our waste management strategy?

The data collected during a waste audit allows us to give your organization data-based findings and help set achievable goals when it comes to zero waste. RTS will outline the necessary steps your organization must take in order to work toward waste reduction and diversion.

Can you assist businesses in training on-site staff in better waste management practices?

Absolutely. Sustainability team members at RTS are seasoned professionals in developing, leading and strategically training your onsite staff.
