To make the city cleaner and safer, the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) is changing the commercial waste industry. DSNY has divided the city into zones, each with authorized waste collectors chosen through a competitive process.

DSNY has also awarded citywide contracts for specific waste types. This new system improves efficiency, safety, and sustainability, while ensuring businesses follow the new waste collection rules.
